BOSTON – The Small Business Administration (SBA) has named Machado Consulting the 2017 Veteran-Owned Business of the Year for Massachusetts.

Machado Consulting earned the recognition for its success in providing top-notch IT solutions to small businesses and contributing to the region’s economic development growth through job creation and active community involvement. Machado Consulting has built a portfolio of clients located throughout the United States and North America.

“Helder Machado is a 29-year combat veteran, recipient of the Combat Infantryman's Badge, and served in Iraq with the highly decorated Third Infantry Division,” SBA’s Massachusetts District Director Robert Nelson said.  “We are privileged to be able to honor Mr. Machado both for his service to the United States and as an accomplished entrepreneur.”

Mr. Machado has received counseling from the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center and participated in educational workshops offered by the SBA resource partner network.

Mr. Machado has been actively involved with TechSandBox, Inc., which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit technology incubator. Helder initially volunteered for a committee formed to analyze the need for a veteran entrepreneurs program. Throughout this time, he supported the goals of TechSandBox and contributed to the Veteran Steering Committee and the Veteran Entrepreneurs in Technology (V.E.T.) program. Recently, Helder has stepped up even more, contributing his company resources to obtain and purchase the V.E.T. program's website domain (www.vetenttech.org) and provided one of his web designers who got the webpage functional within hours. The maintenance and updating of this website is also being performed by his web designer with phenomenally rapid and accurate response -- all pro bono.

Mr. Machado’s military achievements are exceptional and include: Combat Infantryman's Badge, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Saudi Arabia -Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Kuwaiti - Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Global War on Terror Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Bronze Hour Glass, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and Secret Security Clearance.

“I am humbled and very pleased to accept the Veteran Owned Small Business of the Year award.  This award is a reflection of the whole Machado Consulting team and our commitment to excellence in the ever expanding industry of Information Technology,” said Helder Machado, President/CEO. “I would like to thank all our clients and partners for making this a reality and look forward to continuing down this path for many years to come. Machado Consulting has been working extremely hard to provide top notch IT Managed Services to the SMB Market throughout Massachusetts and the New England region.  Our focus is directed on quick response time in conjunction with high quality customer service to act as our clients’ virtual IT department.  This way, our clients can focus on running their business opposed to worrying about their technology environment.”

The Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year award is presented annually to a growing business, with three years of success in sales and profits, increased jobs, an innovative product, and demonstrated potential.

The company was nominated by Barry Rosenbloom from TechSandBox.

Helder Machado, President will be honored at an SBA awards lunch along with the other 2017 Massachusetts Small Business Week winners at Granite Links Golf Club on May 2, 2017.
